After a day and a half of no power, it is a tremendous luxury to be sitting here with my computer on my lap, the heat burbling through the baseboards, the fish happy with heater and filter, Scooby-Doo playing in one room while the boys play Wii in the other. I had a hot shower, hot coffee, and pancakes out of a refrigerator that is actually keeping things cold. The washer and dryer are back in use, which is a good thing because I have nothing to wear! My children all slept in their own beds with their night-lights on, and my alarm clock went off this morning. (All right, so that wasn't really a luxury!)
What's my point? Well, I like electricity and the things it runs. The past is fun to read and write about, but I wouldn't want to live there. And I am really, really grateful for, among other things, living in New England where this kind of thing doesn't happen very often.
