Some parts of your childhood never leave you—like the feeling you get when you wake up in the morning and that particular shade of white light meets your eyes. The shade of light that makes your heart leap up and your brain say delightedly, "SNOW DAY!" It's nearly impossible to keep from rolling over and going back to sleep, toasty warm and feeling like you've been wrapped in cotton wool. (In a good way!)
Today is the first major snowstorm of the year. And it was so beautiful and perfect this morning: the nice light snowfall, everything covered in an even layer of white, and the world so quiet and still. Now it's more like a blizzard. The sky is dark grey, the snow is coming down hard and blowing hard ... and in the middle of the snowstorm is thunder and lightning. A moment ago there was a blinding flash of lightning and the longest roll of thunder I think I've ever heard. (There may be a power outage any minute. It has that feel.) And it's particularly awesome to be here watching the snow in a warm toasty house ... knowing that I don't have to go anywhere!
SNOW DAY!! :)
