Definitely done with the numbering! I went through several books on a recent weekend away, so here goes a stab at trying to catch up.
Three more books (maybe the final three?) in the Caroline Little House series. Interesting to watch how Caroline, determined to stay and make a home right where she is, where her family is, finds herself drawn to Charles's charm and his respect for her as a person—and how Charles, with his terminal case of wanderlust, finds himself drawn to the serious young schoolteacher, enough to try settling down. I think we all know how that turned out!
Rex Stout, Some Buried Caesar. A refreshing change from formula, taking Nero out of his comfort zone to solve a rural mystery. I really enjoyed how Nero took all the discomforts and changes to routine in stride, while Archie struggled to make his style work in the new surroundings.
Collected Works of Edgar Allan Poe, Vol. III. This includies "Ligeia" and "A Tale of the Ragged Mountains". I find Poe either utterly fascinating, or a complete drop-dead bore. This one had a little of both.
Jan Karon, These High Green Hills, third installment of the Mitford series. I think I've mentioned before how I totally didn't "get" these books when I read them 10 years ago or so, but now have much more of an appreciation for the simplicity of the writing (not knocking it—there can be more genius in simplicity than in all the 10 cent words in the dictionary) and the richly detailed characters. This installment was no different. A fun trip through the close-knit town of Mitford.
