reality TV update

Here we are on Tuesday, with AI's Top 4 to sing "rock and roll" tonight. So far, my fave two reality shows (AI and TAR) have had pretty solid seasons. Hoping they'll stay strong through the finish.

AI's Top 4 are pretty much what I would have expected from the get-go - Adam, Kris, Danny, and Allison. Tonight, I think, is where the voting really gets interesting (and important). Adam and Danny have been the front-runners, and Danny has never been in the bottom three. (And too bad, too. That's one young man who could stand a healthy dose of reality show reality.) Kris has shown much more consistent quality than Danny or Allison, and could be a big challenger for Danny's spot, since they're very similar in style ... but he has to perform superbly in order to do it. Allison has had the weakest showing so far, having been in the bottom three many times, but she's the last girl standing and has a powerful voice and performing style. Good song choice and excellent performance could keep her in this week. Otherwise ... I think she's the one most likely to be singing her last tonight. Any way you slice it, this is a very strong top 4. Unusually enough, there's no one I strongly dislike. Danny bores me to tears and I don't think he's as talented as he seemed at first ... and it sounds like he's blowing out his voice every week ... but it wouldn't be a travesty if he won. Adam, of course, performs at an entirely different level and the competition would lose a lot of its luster if he was voted off. He also deserves to win, but at this point, his career is assured, so it doesn't matter overly much.

TAR is a somewhat different story. There weren't any teams this season that I really liked, so it never mattered that much who won. Over time, however, I have come to strongly dislike one of the remaining three teams ... Margie and Luke, whom I find smug, self-satisfied, and hypocritical. Also, I wish she would talk more for herself and less for him. It seems as though they're the "Luke Show" and Margie's just along to facilitate his success. And maybe that's true ... but it's not that interesting. (I was glad that she touched on this at the end of the last episode, saying she came along for him, but is having a lot more fun than she had thought. I don't find them less annoying for this, but it was good to see her show some identity of her own.) Of the other two teams, I find Jaime and Cara somewhat abrasive, but no more so than many who have been on the show, and I sympathize with Jaime and the language barrier. I don't know if I would be any more patient or gracious in her place. Tammy and Victor annoy me least of the three - they've run a relatively drama-free race, and I'd be happiest if they won. It's been a nice change of pace not rooting for anyone - much more entertaining episodes and a lot less nail-biting!
