I always thought of myself as a classic cartoon kind of gal (at least, classic when used in the sense of "was on when I was a kid"), but watching so many of them with my kids is rapidly disabusing me of that notion. Looney Tunes are great, of course, and I'll watch those all day (and often do!). But The Flintstones I never understood - I think Fred Flintstone's a jerk, and don't see why the rest of the people put up with him. I've never appreciated Popeye, either. Popeye himself is not attractive, either in appearance or personality, and Olive Oyl is clearly either unstable or unfaithful - I don't know why she wants to be with him or why he puts up with her. As for The Jetsons, I don't like them, either. George Jetson is the prototype for all those "constantly in jeopardy of losing their jobs" subplots that plague so many protagonists on TV today. It's boring in both the old and the new. Scooby-Doo, of course, holds up as well as always.
Modern cartoons are so much better in plot and characterization ... glad to see advancing technology and viewer sophistication have accomplished something!
